Virtuous Woman #2

All right! It's time for my second virtuous woman post! Today's challenge is found in Proverbs 31: 11-12:

"The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life."

Now, this one is a little tricky coming from someone who does not yet have a husband. It's pretty obvious, though, that the virtuous woman is faithful to her family. She is loyal to her husband: he doesn't have to worry about her sneaking around, running off, wanting a divorce, etc.(This is why it's so important to date for a few years- so you really know the person you commit to spending the rest of your life with!!!). She cares for her family: providing in any way she can, making sacrifices when necessary, praying for her children, etc. He doesn't have to worry about her- he trusts her completely.
The virtuous woman will do good to her husband. Again, this is similar to the previous verse- he can trust her because she only does things a Christian woman should do. Notice it says "all the days of her life". Everyone has bad days. Days where you just want to go back to bed and wake up in, say, a couple of years. Days where you feel like you might explode at the smallest bit of pressure. This is a really tough verse: even in the bad days, she is honorable and does what she needs to do. Wow. How hard it is to appear cheerful when you don't feel like it! "Fake it till you make it" (as my senior pastor used to say) is one of the most difficult virtues to master. I believe we should all take this to heart, whether you are an old maid, a happily married woman, or just a teenage girl, to your family, spouse, children, whoever! Do good and not evil all the days of your life! Let's see what God will do with us when our moodiness is out of the way!!!

Virtuous Women 1

A few days ago, we had the start of the new year which means... New Year's Resolutions! My resolutions 

are based on Proverbs 31:10-31 (the "virtuous woman" chapter of the Bible), and I will try to do a post a 

couple times a month on them.

The first verse, Proverbs 31:10 says: 

      

               "Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies."

The first thing we see in this verse is that virtuous women are scarce. Who can find them? Nowadays, we 

see many women that are immodestly dressed, rude, gossipers, unfaithful to their families, and without many 

virtues. It's hard for men to find good women, and because they also are unfaithful, we find that divorces are 

common, relations before marriage is an option, and sin is rampant even in this free country of America. 

Again, who can find a virtuous woman?  

This isn't to say that there aren't any good and godly women. Most of us, maybe all of us, have known at 

least one person who was a great example in our lives. Someone who has helped us with our struggles, 

answered our questions to the best of their ability. There are virtuous women.Those women are worth far 

more than rubies, or any other earthly wealth. But it's not enough to know good, Christian women- we must 

dedicate ourselves to becoming one. Getting saved is the first step, because everyone has sinned. Just turn away from your sins, confess that you've messed up, and believe that Jesus can save you! After that, God will help you grow and become 

more like the woman He would have you to be. 

I'm not saying all of this to try to prove that I'm a perfect Christian- I have sooo many faults left (God is 

patient!). I'm saying this to get the word out. These virtuous women, (you, me, everyone!) have the power to

change the world. So let's get out there and do something great!!  

First Post!!

           Yay!! My first blogpost! As you know from my bio (if I figured out how to write it yet), this is a blog with bits and pieces, crafty, thoughtful, and sometimes random, things from my life (hence the title "Sammy's Notions"). I think I'll start this off with a re-decorating project I have recently worked on. Enjoy, and I hope you'll visit often!

 I started out with a plain, yellow, cardboard shelf (the kind they throw out at retail stores). I am absolutely in love with blue and white chevron, so imagine my delight when I found duct tape in that exact pattern! And it was a dollar per roll!! 

I started taping at the top side working my way down, and tucking the extra tape on the sides. Then, I worked on the back in the same way. After that, there was just enough tape to cover a small portion of a few shelves, and I pretty much had to stop there... (guess it's back to the dollar store!). 

This shelf is really handy for things I don't have room for elsewhere, things I need to remember to take, etc. etc. when you're a crafter, the possibilities are endless!
